Royal Tunbridge Wells Skin & Laser Clinic CQC Inspection

Latest CQC Inspection reveals that the Royal Tunbridge Wells Skin & Laser Clinic meets all essential standards of quality and safety

The Care Quality Commission recently carried out an unannounced inspection of the Royal Tunbridge Wells Skin & Laser Clinic, and we are pleased to announce that we passed in all areas. The routine inspection was carried out on the 18th October 2012 to examine whether or not the RTWS&LC meets the quality and safety standards prescribed by the CQC.

During the visit, inspectors spoke to patients and members of staff and inspected performance against six possible outcomes:

• Consent to care and treatment
• Care and welfare of people who use services
• Safety, availability and suitability of equipment
• Requirements relating to workers
• Assessing and monitoring the quality of service provision
• Records

Clinical Director Nina Sheffield said:  "We are delighted, but not surprised, that the CQC inspectors found that we meet all the essential standards of quality and safety. Firstly, I would like to thank the team here for continuous hard work and constant high level of standards, when it comes to treatments and patient care.  Our challenge now is to ensure that we continue to maintain this in our existing and all new treatments within our new cosmetic surgery clinic.”

The CQC registration is very important to the Clinic, as it should be to all hospitals and medical clinics.  Unfortunately, there is now no longer a legal requirement for anyone using lasers and light to be registered with the Care Quality Commission and this is a fact that the Royal Tunbridge Wells Skin & Laser Clinic strongly disapprove of.

For this reason, the Clinic believes that CQC registration is one of the most effective ways to choose a provider as if they are registered they have to adhere to certain standards of quality of care.  If they are not registered, the fact is there is no governing body in place to carry out these routine inspections and make sure the business is being run to acceptable and legal standards.

Thankfully the CQC are taking a more robust approach to cosmetic surgery. "Poor practice in some organisations casts a long shadow over the cosmetic surgery industry and undermines the efforts of some highly professional practitioners," said NHS medical director Sir Bruce Keogh.
