What is IPL?
IPL is basically a beauty therapist’s devise; very cheap to buy, with low energy emission and very wide spectrum of light. Because of this it's unable to target and kill the entire hair follicle. Moreover, IPL is not a laser. It delivers light that penetrates very superficially and certainly not deep enough, specifically to where the majority of hair follicles are.
Why we don’t use IPL on Mediterranean or Dark Skin
It is not safe to treat dark or Mediterranean skin types with IPL as it could easy burn the skin. Why? Dark skin burns caused by ‘Intense Pulse Light’ are very common because IPL works on a top layer of the skin and targets not only pigmented hair it is also absorbed by natural skin pigment. For this reason you will not get enough energy to kill the hair follicle, as a big proportion of this energy will be defused all over the skin and burn it.
